The story of MassHSHockey.com
For eighteen seasons, if you wanted to know how your team did last night, you went to one place.

Rick Comfort started MassHSHockey.com in December 2008 with a simple belief: every Massachusetts high school hockey game deserved to be counted. One of Lynn’s greatest players, a star at Lynn Classical who played at Boston University and went to Boston Bruins training camp, Rick spent years as president of Lynn Youth Hockey, and to a generation of players he was simply “Coach Comfort.” Then he set out to catalog the whole sport: box scores, scoring and goalie stats, standings, ratings, and the history behind them, game after game, season after season.
It became the place everyone went. Newspapers built their coverage on it, and The Daily Item called it the bible of the sport. Coaches checked it before practice, and parents and grandparents refreshed it from the bleachers on Wednesday and Saturday nights. In 2022 the Massachusetts State Hockey Coaches Association honored Rick with its William J. Stewart Award for outstanding service to Massachusetts high school hockey.
In 2018 Rick entrusted the site to Hockey Night in Boston, which had been helping him report scores. Rick passed away in August 2026 at 77. The record he started keeping lives on.
Hockey Night in Boston is committed to carrying Rick’s work forward, preserving every score, standings table and state champion back to 1942‑43, and to celebrating Massachusetts high school hockey, from the rivalries and the packed rinks to the run to the Garden, better than anyone else. This page is where that history lives.
